This CD contains a collection of melodies and songs selected from a series entitled "Bands and Ensembles of south-eastern Poland". Apart from some other interesting records from that region, it also includes also unique, never issued material from an archive of the Polish Radio Broadcasting in Rzeszow: a 1972 record of the Sowas band from Piatkowa and a record of Wladyslaw Loboda from 1966. The ensembles presented on the CD belong to the most representative ones for south-eastern Poland. They emerged before many years thanks to the favorable atmosphere in their societies and to the mobilisation of the oldest village players. In spite of increasing financial difficulties, they still exist and usually act as affiliated to district, village or town centers of cultures. The "Stachy" folk bank is an exception because it acts under a patronage of the Krosno Glassworks, similarly as "Pogorzanie" from the Jaslo Petroleum Refinery. Principally, the bands accompany Regional Song and Dance Ensembles. They play melodies and songs characteristic for their home localities, and it brings to them prizes and other awards won in various Pan-Polish or regional competitions. Three of them obtained the prestigious Oskar Kolberg prizes.
