Forward by Jozef Kardynal Glemp
The National Museum in Warsaw's collection of medieval art is the largest and most representative collection from this time period in Poland. "The Mystic Middle Ages" is an outstanding art book covering 120 examples from this incredible collection.
Lavishly illustrated, it shows examples of medieval Polish prints (woodcuts and copperplates), plus paintings and three-dimensional artwork, using techniques as polychrome wood and stone, tempera on wood, and other forms of hand carved art, from the 13th to the 16th century. Included are examples of works by the Master ES, Martin Schongauer, Hans Schaufelein, Albrecht Durer and Lucas Cranach the Elder, as well as many other anonymous masters. The narrative is both in English and Polish.
