Description

The territory of Kurpie in northeastern Poland was for many centuries a great forest and consisted of two regions, Puszcza Zielona and Puszcza Biala meaning "Green Wilderness" and "White Wilderness".  People settled here in the early part of the 16th century, mostly from Mazowsze to the west.  The foresters, hunters and collectors of wild honey developed a rich and lively folklore.  Their textiles are considered to be the most beautiful and sophisticated in all of Poland.  This Kurpie girl is from the Puszcza Zielona region.  She has a hidden compartment under her dress that opens and is ideal for storing small keepsakes, jewelry, candy.  The name in Polish is bombonierka, literally a holder for candy bon-bons.  These dolls are perfect, clothed in authentic regional folk costumes, as certified by the Polish Ministry of Culture. These traditional Polish dolls are completely handmade and hand painted using only natural materials.  Notice the fine attention to detail and workmanship.
